TGIF Project: Make a DIY Mark Rothko-Inspired Painting

Mark Rothko is one of my FAVORITE abstract painters.  It makes me laugh when people say, “What is that gigantic blob of color?  I could do that!”  Maybe you could – but at the same time, Mark Rothko appreciated color, and he even once observed that “the fact that one usually begins with drawing is already academic. We start with color.”  His combinations intrigue me, and I have a complete appreciation for the man as an artist.

If you appreciate him too, check out this post on Dollar Store Crafts about how to DIY your own Rothko piece.  You can only look at originals in museums now, so this is about as close as you can get – the nice thing is that I’m sure Mark would be happy that you were playing with and appreciating color too.  Visit the complete entry with instructions here.
